Dear Friends, Members and
Families:
It is that time of year again, the fall season. In the fall, we get to enjoy many things, such as leaves turning and the near perfect Indian Summer weather. One of the best things we have to look forward to is the excellent shooting opportunity afforded us at our local clubs, especially the McHenry Sportsmen’s Club. Many of us shoot for many different reasons. Some shoot to improve their ATA averages while others for bird hunting with many other reasons in between. In any case, the McHenry Sportsmen’s club offers a good challenging shooting opportunity. The grounds at the club are beautiful this time of year, and as always, you are welcome to organize a group and come out, shoot some clay pigeons and enjoy the grounds by having a personal picnic.
We welcome all of you at the McHenry Sportsmen’s Club and hope to be seeing all of you soon.
This
year we will once again be hosting our annual Fall Turkey Shoot. The format will be a tad different this
year. The guys are forever attempting
to figure out new and better ways of conducting this event.
The
dates for the shoot are as follows:
Saturday, November 3 and
Sunday November 4, 2001
From 10:00 AM
until 5:00 PM
This
shoot normally has a great turnout, so please mark your calendars and
join in on some fun and at the same time, bring home your Thanksgiving
turkey. Non members are always welcome.
Turkey rounds consist of
shooting ten clay pigeons. Each round
consists of five shooters shooting two targets from each of five stations. Two
games to choose from, three ways to win turkeys:
The shooter who hits the most targets wins the turkey. Ties will go into extra shooting at further
distances until someone misses their target.
The shooter who hits the most white targets wins the turkey. All white birds presented participate in the white bird
count. Ties will go into extra shooting
in high gun format at further distances until someone misses their target.
If you hit one or more of the first three
white targets released and DID NOT WIN
THE ROUND, they will be considered “meat birds”. You will be given a coupon for each hit. Five coupons will be considered to be a
winner and may be redeemed for a turkey.
White targets are inserted
into our automatic trap machines mixed in with the conventional orange targets
in a totally random fashion when the machine is loaded. It is possible and likely that some rounds
may have more white targets than others.
Meat bird coupons must be redeemed on or before the close of the shoot (on Sunday) and must be redeemed for turkeys.
We are currently organizing a fall league.
The format of this event
as we know it today is as follows:
You organize your own team of three shooters. The entry fee for each team is eighteen dollars, which will be used to purchase trophies for the winners.
The league will be divided into classes to even the playing field.
The official start date is October 20, 2001. You must shoot your first one hundred and fifty targets on or before November 11, 2001 for classification purposes. The duration of the league is five hundred sixteen-yard targets that must be shot by the end of the year.
You may sign up multiple times and may be on one or more teams. The League is open to both members and non-members. Non members will shoot league rounds at member rates.
Remember that big snowfall last year? We contract out a member to plow out the parking lot, but the trap fields cannot be plowed this way. We have to do it ourselves. Our PAT trap is in field one and that means a lot of snow to remove. Last year, we dug it out with a little Toro snow blower and a lot of hand shoveling. This drastically cut into our shooting time and made us all very tired. This year we want to be prepared.
If anyone has a large two stage snow thrower you really do not need (for what ever reason), and feel like lending, giving or selling to the club, please let us know. It would be greatly appreciated. (We are all getting too old for this.)
Sincerely,
The McHenry Sportsmen’s Club
